The Lighthouse Project is a well established Christian Charity working in association with Scripture Union. The charity exists to serve the schools of Crawley whilst sharing the Christian faith and values.

The work of The Lighthouse Project originally started 20 years ago and works in partnership with local churches. The charity currently works in 23 schools across Crawley and is made up of paid staff and volunteers.


Lizzie Ashley (Project Leader)

Lizzie became the Project Leader for The Lighthouse Project in September 2016 but is is currently on maternity leave. Lizzie has worked with young people for the past 11 years. Her previous experience includes church youth work and roles within the school environment.

Liz Burston (Primary Assembly Coordinator)

Liz has been a Primary Schools Worker for The Lighthouse Project since February 2016. She is married and has 3 daughters. Liz has been involved in children’s work, either voluntarily or in a paid position, for all of her working life.

Claire Clarke (Primary Schools Worker)

Claire is our new Primary Schools Worker with The Lighthouse Project, joining us in September 2017. She is responsible for managing our primary lunch club programme and she is also involved in presenting assemblies. Claire lives in Crawley with her husband and 2 sons. She has been volunteering with the charity since 2016 and has experience of church families work and has sung in church choirs all her life. Singing and doing the actions to the song “My Lighthouse” with the children in schools is one of her favourite things to do!

Michelle Wainwright (Secondary Schools Coordinator)

Michelle started as Project Leader in September 2018, covering Lizzie Ashley whilst she is on maternity leave. Michelle is now continuing to work with The Lighthouse Project as The Secondary School’s Coordinator. 
Michelle has worked with young people for 15 years in both voluntary and paid roles, including 9 years in a Secondary School. She is married and loves going on adventures with her husband. She is part of Broadfield Christian Fellowship.


do we do?

The Lighthouse Project works in partnership with local churches to support schools by promoting spiritual, moral and cultural development. We do this is a variety of ways, including:
  • Collective Worship which has a Christian character
  • Lunch clubs
  • Prayer Spaces
  • It’s Your Move (year 6 transition programme)
  • Eliv8 Mentoring Programme
  • Easter and Christmas Explored
  • Relationship and Sex Education
